I would like to take a moment to thank shelves of books......for providing a way of getting to know someone.
...for being one of the best ways to wile away time at house parties when you don't feel like talking to anyone.
...for evidencing the things we have known and the things we want to know.
(Oh, and goodreads.com doesn't even hold a candle.)

Oh, how much did I spent doing #2 at parties. Great conversation starter too. I remember chatting at length about Mina Loy while being very very inebriated. And reciting "Song to Joannes" 5 minutes later. One of my last parties in Houston.
its good to know others do this too. i always spend the first uncomfortable half hour in someone's house hiding by the bookshelf. spot on amoura!
